Welcome...
Well, this site is an experiment. We will see what happens with it. Basically I'm at the point where I can fairly easily recompile all Williams Level 7 games or generate new code that runs in the same way that the Level 7 games do. What I want to do is make this site a place where Level 7 owners can discuss the games and also report bugs and/or requests and I will then attempt to make sure all the Level 7 games are bug free for us collectors.
This site will include all documentation and ROM versions that I modify for Level 7 games as well as a forum for people to discuss bugs and other programming topics.
One important note. In all my 'modifications' I am not going to change any of the game rules. All modifications will be for aesthetic reasons only. What I will do is the following...
Bug Fixes
Sound Enhancements
Lamp Enhancements
In reality, I don't want to really change the games that much, this is more of a learning experience for me and hopefully I can make some fun changes without reinventing any of the games I really enjoy as they are.
News Bits
Okay, Summer is over, back to work... - Saturday, September 30, 2006
I got distracted by the Internet Pinball Serial Number Database this summer and a project for Atari's I,Robot game so I have not worked on the JL update at all. Im going to focus on getting it done this october now just to cross it off the list. Thanks for your patience.
Jungle Lord L-3 Sound ROM Complete.. - Wednesday, May 24, 2006
Okay, I *finally* have the sound ROM complete (again). In my original design, I utilized one of the unused sound command lines that went between the CPU and Sound boards. This would have meant that you would have to run an additional wire between the two boards for all the sounds to work. I thought this was going to be too much of a problem in the end so I revamped the sound ROM so that you can still get the 64 sounds over the 5 sound lines by using a paging command instead. This will make the whole upgrade process easier.
On another note... I also received the new CPU for my Pocket Programmer today so it is fully working now. It is nice to have a USB EPROM programmer finally instead of using my old P-175 with my ISA bus Needham's PB-10... Im now Windows 98 free!!
Hyperball L-6 ROM Update - Friday, May 19, 2006
From a recent post on RGP, it seems that Dave L. found a nice little bug in my Hyperball L-5 code that caused the game to stay in a diagnostics loop if the batteries were replaced causing the RAM to be erased. I tracked down the problem last night and have made a new L-6 version that should take care of all the issues. More details can be found in the Hyperball forum.
The new L-6 ROM image is available in the downloads section.
EPROM Building... - Thursday, May 18, 2006
Im in the process of splitting up the ROM images into proper sizes and creating preliminary documentation for the JL L-3 ROM update. Unfortunately I hit a small hurdle when the Pocket Programmer USB that I ordered did it's first firmware update, failed and now my laptop can't see it. Since I sold my old Needham's PB-10 on ebay this week, Im basically out of luck on burning EPROM's and doing a final test until I get a replacement. I guess that means I can add another easter egg. :-)
JL L-3 Update - Wednesday, May 03, 2006
I have been tracking down the bug in the Jungle Lord outhole code and in the process had to sit down and figure out what each of the lamp commands did in order to fully understand the lamp group effects. That took awhile but I now have them fully documented and I will update the Pinbuilder page on gamearchive this week. I should be ready to roll out the BETA ROM images to interested parties next week.
JL L-3 Preview at RMPS - Monday, April 24, 2006
I guess I would say that the ROM's held up pretty well at the RMPS this year. I think Dan and I reset his Jungle Lord about 4 times due to a bug where the game would not recogize the ball in the outhole. But for 3 days of hard play, it held up pretty well. Thanks to Dan Nikolich for hosting the RMPS and of course Dan Gutchess for letting me put my experiment into his Jungle Lord at the show. I will investigate the current bug and then hopefully the ROM's will be available for BETA testing to interested parties. I will post here for a way to sign up for BETA testing later this week.
Jungle Lord Preview - Saturday, March 25, 2006
The new Jungle Lord code will be available on Dan Gutchess' Jungle Lord machine at the
Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown
outside of Denver, CO on April 21-23rd. See you there. I hope to be completely finished by then. If I don't get any bugs during the show, I will release it on the site.
Anyone handy with Photoshop? - Sunday, March 19, 2006
Im graphically inept, so if someone has time and desire to throw together a nice logo for the site I will put it up directly. Otherwise, the text header will stay for a bit. :-)
Jungle Lord Status - Sunday, March 19, 2006
I have finished the Jungle Lord sound ROM revision. It took some work but I have it fitting in the normal ROM space for speech games... 1 Sound ROM and 4 Speech ROM's. Jungle Lord usually only has 3 Speech ROM's but I added 1K more speech 'stuff' to enhance the game a bit. Im working on the game ROM's now and hope to have a version out in April. The Sound and Game ROM's will be released together and will not necessarily work seperately either. For more details, read the Jungle Lord forum.
Site Up... - Sunday, March 19, 2006
I threw this site together quickly as it was a better solution than putting something in Gamearchive since GA is a static site. Hopefully, people will post some interesting requests here.
